Commenting on the landslide victory of Peter Magyar in Hungarian elections, former Romanian President Traian Basescu said the US and Russian presidents who publicly supported Viktor Orban had been “beaten to a pulp by the Hungarian people”.

“Both (US President Donald) Trump and (Russia’s Vladimir) Putin hate democracy and the rule of law…. They want to dismantle Europe in order to control..  it. On Sunday they found out that it was not possible! Trump will go but America remains!”, Basescu said.

“Trump and Putin learned that there is something more powerful than their deadly nuclear weapons, more powerful than their deadly weapons and missiles, more powerful than their millions of soldiers ready to die on the battlefields invading foreign countries, without knowing why.

This “something more powerful” than weapons is called a “democratic vote”, says former President Traian Basescu, president from 2004-2014 said on Facebook.

“ On Sunday they found out that it was not possible! Trump will leave, America remains!”, he ended.

Viktor Orbán’s 16-year rule in Budapest came to an end after he conceded defeat in the Hungarian elections to his opponent, Péter Magyar. Magyar’s Tisza party oin 138 seats in the 199-seat parliament, a more than two-thirds majority that will give him sweeping powers to reform Hungary.

“The Hungarians said today ‘yes’ to Europe, they said ‘yes’ to a free Hungary,” Magyar told an enthusiastic crowd gathered on the banks of the Danube, while urging Orbán’s supporters in state institutions to resign.
