Deputy Romanian Prime Minister Tánczos Barna on Monday congratulated Hungary’s incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar on his party’s victory and did a ‘mea culpa’ for urging Hungarians in Romania to vote for Viktor Orban.

“It’s not a secret, I didn’t expect this. I was wrong. I am not the only one that failed to …see that huge force that led to the crushing victory of the TISZA party,” the deputy prime minister, an ethnic Hungarian,  said.

Hungary has entered “a new era, the opposite of the current one  in almost all aspects” and FIDESZ (Eds:Orban’s party) will go into opposition.

“What we saw tonight in Budapest is the real revolutionary atmosphere, of regime change,” he said.

“I saw thousands of Hungarians in Budapest overwhelmed with joy, hundreds of cars celebrating that evening, while I returned home on foot, then on a scooter, from the FIDESZ monitoring center,” he  said on his Facebook page.

He said he saw many “young people, but not only”.

“From buses to trams, from taxis to the subway, from luxury to average cars. Flags were waving everywhere, there were horns honking, it was a celebration of joy, with rhymes, music, party, stage and victory speeches,” he added.

He congratulated the TISZA Party and Péter Magyar for the victory.

“As many have said, the sun is rising today. We have entered a new era, which is practically the opposite of what we are  now  in almost all aspects. Politicians  are starting, in contrast to those with decades of experience, a diametrically opposed approach to relationswith the EU and other value systems.

“ This is what democracy means. The sun has risen even today. Tomorrow we will wake up to a beautiful spring day. To work and to fight!”, he ended.
