European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has canceled engagements for the first two weeks of January, after contracting pneumonia, which has developed into a severe case.
“The canceled appointments include a speech in Lisbon and the scheduled trip to Gdańsk on the occasion of the launch of the Polish Council presidency, which will take place at a later stage”, confirmed a EC spokesperson.
No additional details have been given.
At 66, von der Leyen has just begun her second five-year term as EC president.
