VIDEO | 250 people evacuated from apartment block in east Romania after fire breaks out in underground car park

Firefighters have evacuated 250 people from a residential building after a fire broke out at an underground car park in the Black Sea port of Constanta.

In dramatic scenes, 100 people were rescued from the roof and eight people were taken to hospital after suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. There were no reports of serious injuries.

Firefighters went door-to-door in the 150-apartment building to make sure everyone was evacuated. Seventy children were among the people who were rescued.

Some residents took refuge on their balconies after the blaze broke out.

Thirty-six cars were damaged in the blaze, the Dobrogea Emergency Situations Department said,  News.ro reported.

Emergency chief Mihail Cristian Amarandei said fire engines were sent from the nearby counties of Ialomita and Calarasi.

“The fire broke out in the underground car park, “ he said. No cause has been  established yet.
