Experts are trying to find out how it appeared in Romania, as the species disappeared 200 years ago
The creature, suspected as being the same as the one filmed last year in Hațeg, western Romania was caught on video running on a field in Alba County this month.
The Alba Association of Sports Hunters and Fishermen say that the moose was seen in the area a month ago and they are trying to find out how it got to us.
Where could it have come from
Paul Suciu, AJVPS Alba: “This specimen probably migrated, but given the very long distance, it is not only a free habitat, an open habitat, sheepfolds, localities, highways, so on intervened and it could not, we say, from Ukraine to emigrate to our area.”
Bogdan Dragomir, president of AJVPS Alba: “The moose disappeared from Romania’s fauna about 200 years ago, it is an animal that is specific to the northern hemisphere, so its presence in the Carpathian arc is questioned to hope that it will survive.”
The moose is the largest animal of the deer species and lives in colder countries of Europe such as Ukraine, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, the Baltic states and parts of Poland.
