Romanian tenor Ştefan von Korch is returning home following a summer tour in China and Germany,  to perform “Carmina Burana.”

Von Korch is joined by the Oltenia Philharmonic under the baton of Svilen Simeonov. Other soloists include soprano Christine Razec and baritone Alexandru Constantin, while Bogdan Botezatu serves as chorus master, Operawire reported.

“‘Carmina Burana’ is very impressive from all points of view. It is a demanding but highly satisfying work, with superb solo and choral lines and overwhelmingly rich orchestral arrangements,” von Korch is quoted as saying.

Von Korch, who was born in Oradea, western Romania, is regarded as one of the country’s best tenors. Apart from China, he’s performed in Zurich, Frankfurt, Bern, Bratislava and Vienna.

The Carmina Burana concert is scheduled for  7pm on Nov. 24 in Craiova, a city in southern Romania.

Carmina Burana is a cantata composed in 1935 and 1936 by Muncih-born German composer Carl Orff, based on 24 poems from the medieval collection Carmina Burana. It was first performed in 1937.

It is structured into five major sections, containing 25 movements in total, including one repeated movement and one purely instrumental one. Orff composed it when he was 39 and its is his most famous work.
