An Arctic spell will grip parts of Romania for the next two days, forecasters announced Tuesday.
The mercury will plummet to -18 Celsius in some places and winds will whip up to 75 kilometers an hour along the coast and in the Carpathian Mountains, adding a wind chill factor to the frigid temperatures.
The icy weather will last until Thursday evening forecasters said.
„The weather will become particularly cold, frosty at night and first thing in the morning, in the northwest and central Romania, where the lows will be -15… to -10 degrees Celsius, and on Wednesday to Thursday.”
„The minimum values will generally be between -18 and -8 degrees Celsius. Highs will also be below freezing,” the National Weather Administration said.
Winds will intensify in the east and southeast and gust up to y of 50… 55 km / h, higher on the coast, in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and during the day on Wednesday.”
Forecasters issued a yellow code warning for high winds on Tuesday.
The warning for gale force winds up to 75 kilometers an hour is valid the counties of Bacău, Brăila, Buzău, Călăraşi, Constanţa, Galaţi, Ialomiţa, Tulcea, Vrancea and Vaslui.
