Charlie Ottley, the Romania-based British presenter known for Wild Carpathia and Flavours of Romania series extolling the charms of Romania has been discharged from hospital after breaking his ankle during shooting.

“I want to say an enormous thank you to all the good folk at Spitalul Clinic Municipal de Urgență Timisoara,” he wrote on Facebook.
“Three weeks ago I smashed my ankle to bits in the line of duty; luckily we finished 99 percent of the filming so I was able to spend the last four weeks focusing on the edit, while being looked after like a King by my partner Oana who has been a total angel through all of this.”
“Today (Editor’s note: August 19) I had a large screw removed from my ankle and can now start gradually putting weight on the foot again. Hoping to be able to walk again properly in a few weeks thanks to Adrian my surgeon’s superlative skills. Thanks also to Dan Iliescu who runs a very tight ship and all his team who took such amazing care of me!,” added.
He also had words of praise for the Romanian healthcare system. “Even though the Romanian hospital system is woefully underfunded, the health workers here do an incredible job with what they have available. We should salute them all for their love, dedication and tireless patience!”
The hospital stay was the latest mishap for the British producer who was the victim of a robbery in Timisoara in June 2022. Thieves stole filming equipment and a drone which was later returned.

Charlie Ottley’s  Flavours of Romania is in its second season. The second season which celebrates culture, cuisine and nature will have nine episodes, revisiting the country’s historical regions in an attempt „to capture Romania’s spirit with new stories, flavours, sounds and adventures”, producers said.

The British documentary maker lives in a house high in the Romanian mountains, and regularly posts about his life there.
