„Open Streets, Bucharest – Urban Promenade” now at its 4th year, is back this weekend, an event that allows pedestrians to wander freely around the prettiest boulevards in the Romanian capital.

Last year, one million participants enjoyed the event which runs from April 6 to October 13. The aim is to transform otherwise traffic-snarled boulevards into a space where tourists and residents can stroll and relax away from traffic fumes.

Artistic shows and sporting activities will be staged on the pedestrian areas during the weekend including theater performances, dance shows, live street concerts, creative workshops for children, exhibitions and sports.

„Open Streets” #4 reconfigures the urban space into an open stage for artistic acts and offers relaxation and promenade areas for residents of all ages.”

Road closures

Next weekend (April 6-7), there will be traffic restrictions on Calea Victoriei, Sevastopol Street, Gheorghe Manu, Dacia Boulevard, Ştirbei Vodă Street, Ion Campineanu Street and Regina Elisabeta Boulevard. Public transport will be diverted. Bike lanes will also be closed.

On weekends when „Open Streets, Bucharest – Urban Promenade” is happening, traffic is allowed from 11pm to 9am.

The event is organized by the Bucharest City Hall’s culture department, education and tourism department, with ARCUB – Cultural Center of Bucharest, and PROEDUS – Center for Educational and Sports Projects of Bucharest.
