Despite only modest increases of construction progress in the European Union in recent months, Romania saw an increase of over 20% just from June to July 2025.
The difference from other countries is huge. In the European Union, Slovenia followed 9.9%, and Belgium at 2.2%.
If in the European Union as a whole, building went up by 3.6% from 2023, Romania saw an enormous advance of 41.1%, at annual level. Other states with high levels of construction works at annual level were Spain at 22.8% and Slovenia at 21.4% in the same year, but again, the leap is significant.
Between July 2024 and 2025, there was also an over 41% increase. New works compose nearly 36% of these works, while maintenance stands at 41%, but capital repair works make up the bulk at 67%.
There were increases for residential buildings at 51%, engineer constructions at 40%, and and for non-residential buildings at 38.5%.
Construction is typically done in the summer.
At first glance, this signifiant number may raise eyebrows, given that Romania’s inflation is also the steepest in Europe, what with the war next door in Ukraine. Let’s see if things stay the same with the new austerity measures and the increase in threats on behalf of Russia.
