Coronavirus cases stay under 200 a day in Romania, as total climbs toward 20,000

The number of coronavirus cases in Romania climbed to 19,669 on Wednesday, with 152 new infections in the last day, authorities said.

Romania has recorded fewer than 200 cases a day for the past two weeks. On Tuesday, some 119 cases were reported which was the lowest daily figure in two months.

The Strategic Communication Group said Wednesday that nine patients had succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,288.

There are currently 162 patients being treated in intensive care for their symptoms.

Almost 14,000 people have recovered from the virus, authorities said.

There are 2,376 people in institutionalized quarantine with more than 95,000 people in self-isolation at home under medical supervision.

More than 459,000 tests have been carried out nationwide. Some 10,952 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours.
