The European Parliament on Tuesday stripped Diana Șoșoacă of her immunity, leaving her open to face a probe for 11 charges including legionary propaganda and denying the Holocaust.
The European legislature decided, in a plenary vote, that Ms Sosoaca, the S.O.S. president could be investigated in Romania, as requested by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Two separate votes took place in the European Parliament in a show of hands, based on the report of MEP Dominik Tarczyński from the European Conservatives and Reformists group, which requested the lifting of her parliamentary immunity for seven alleged offenses under investigation in Romania.
The European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) had already unanimously approved the request, with 17 votes in favor.
Romania’s Prosecutor General’s Office requested her immunity be lifted after launching criminal proceedings against her year. She is accused of 11 offenses, including promoting fascist ideology, promoting war criminals, and denying the Holocaust.
