“Despite the harsh weather, operations are still within normal parameters,” Henri Coandă International Airport authorities said. “Aircraft are landing and taking off safely. On the ground, varying degrees of snow have impacted roadways, particularly notable after heavy snow on Monday morning and throughout the weekend. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued a yellow alert warning for snow and icy weather until Tuesday morning for the southeastern counties of Constanța, Ialomița, and Ilfov, along with the capital, Bucharest. .
Strong wind gusts reached up to 45 km/h, causing snow drifts, presents additional hazards for motorists and pedestrians. Bucharest’s STB announced changes to tram and bus routes to prevent slippery conditions. “Bus services will now operate on the roadway, stopping at former bus stations to prevent braking issues caused by slick tram tracks,” they noted.
The Infotrafic Center reported roads were impacted across several counties with snow-clearing equipment deployed on roads from the Bucharest-Pitești and Bucharest-Constanța highways to the surrounding areas. Traffic police urged drivers to stay informed about winter conditions before setting out.
Police recommend motorists drive at reduced speeds and maintaining a distance from other vehicles in the wintry conditions.
“Drivers must adapt their speeds to the snowy road conditions, paying close attention to areas icy areas,” police said.
