Moldova names new ambassadors to Romania, Ukraine, France and China

Moldova’s president Maia Sandu has named new ambassadors to Romania, Ukraine, France and China.

Diplomat Mihail Mîţu will be the new ambassador to Romania following a decree signed by Sandu and published on Thursday in the Official Gazette.

Victor Chirila, Moldova’s current ambassador to Bucharest, will move to Kyiv where he will serve as Moldova’s ambassador to Ukraine. Chirilă has been posted as ambassador in Bucharest since November 2021.

The new ambassador, Mihai Mîţu, 42, was previously  Secretary General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in Chisinau since 2022.

Between 2021 and 2022, he was head of Protocol, at the Moldovan presidency and prior to that he was a counselor at Moldova’s embassy in Romania.

Between 2013 and 2016, he was consul at Moldova’s embassy in the United States.

According to the decrees signed by President Sandu, Vladislav Kulminski, Moldova’s ambassador to the U.S. was also named Ambassador to Mexico.

Likewise, Viorel Ursu, ambassador to Sweden, will also occupy the posts of ambassador to Iceland, Norway and Finland.

Lorina Bălteanu will be Moldova’s new ambassador to France, and Petru Frunze will be Chisinau’s top diplomat in China.

Two ambassadors are being recalled:  Stefan Gorda from the position of ambassador to Kazakhstan, and Corina Călugăru as Moldova’s ambassador to France.
