He has been suffering a respiratory infection for over a week — something dangerous for people his age.

What’s more, he has a history of pleurisy, and even had a lung removed when he was 21.
The Vatican has phrased his condition as being “complex”.
This comes after being diagnosed with bronchitis about five days ago.
But he is spending his time in hospital reading, resting and, of course, praying.
He is currently in the Gemelli hospital in Rome.
Doctors are staying on top of it, switching antibiotics for the “polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract”.
He has been hospitalized several times in recent years. His commitments up to Sunday have been canceled.
