The president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who has recently militated significantly for Moldova’s entry into the European Union, in light of the conflict in neighbouring Ukraine and advancing Russian threats, has confirmed in an interview published by Bloomberg that she will run for another presidential term in Moldova’s 2024 elections.

When asked if she will run for a new term, Maia Sandu responded affirmatively. As she such, she aims to „maintain pro-European sentiment and avoid a retreat in support for an exit out of Moscow’s orbit. She also hopes to combat corrupt, provide economic reforms, and solve separatist conflicts in the Republic of Moldova.

In 2020 she won against pro-Russian socialist Igor Dodon with 57%.

She also expressed her hope that Moldova will join the European Union by 2030, according to Digi24, citing the Moldovan publication Newsmaker.

Moldova’s EU path not dependent on separatist republic, says Borrell
