A new map has shown a 280-mile “emergency” road being built through Europe to Ukraine by Romania.
The new road will run from the Romanian capital of Bucharest to the town of Siret in Ukraine in a bid to open up a new transport corridor allowing it to access ports in Romania.
On its way from Bucharest to Siret, the road will stop off in Ploiesti, Buzau, Focsani, Bacau and Pascani.
It will bypass Poland, Hungry and Slovakia, providing direct access to Ukraine.
Romanian press say the highway is being built as quickly as possible with the help of circa 3,000 workers and hundreds of vehicles.
Staff are said to be working around the clock, seven days a week.
The road will open up a new route for supplies to reach the frontline in Ukraine’s war against Russia, after Turkey banned two British ships being gifted to the Eastern European country from entering its waters.
The investment is linked to the “Moldavian Highway”, which is intended to serve as a new transport corridor for Ukraine in the future.
Romania has a notorious problem with roads and has not succeeded in recent decades to either building sufficient connecting highways throughout the country or repair existing roads.
