Romanian is the second most spoken language in Microsoft’s offices around the world, U.S. ambassador to Romania Kathleen Kavalec said at a reception for Independence Day.
“Romania and the United States aim to build more democratic, inclusive, and prosperous societies.” She said that this mission in Bucharest brought her back to Romania after 15 years, speaking in Romanian as well as English.
The envoy evoked connections between the two countries, such as IT, noting that “Romanian is the second most spoken language in Microsoft’s branches worldwide.”
Euronews Romania, disputed the claim and said it was an exaggeration.
The ambassador also said that Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine demonstrates the importance of the 25-year-old Romanian-US partnership.
The U.S. currently keeps 3,000 American soldiers stationed in Romania.
“This presence not only allows us to train together to enhance the capabilities of our allies, but it also helps ensure that Romania’s borders are secure and that we can sleep more peacefully,” she said.
