Romanian Cultural Institute to open in Tokyo

The official opening of the Romanian Cultural Institute (RCI) in Tokyo will take place on November 26, ICR announced.

The opening will be attended by Liviu Jicman, president of EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture), Romania’s ambassador in Japan, Ovidiu Raeţchi, and Ştefania Mărmureanu, who will coordinate the institute.

În the two days following the opening of the RCI’s Tokyo branch, Liviu Jicman will attend meetings with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology. 

EUNIC will in turn presents its programs developed with the RCI, such as Translation and Publication Support (TPS) PUBLISHING ROMANIA, Romanian language courses, the summer school in Braşov, RCI grants, and the CANTEMIR program, among others. 

The first activities will involve an exhibition of photographs taken in Maramureş by Japanese photographer Kosey Miya, and a concert involving the traditional Romanian instrument which is the “nai” by Fumiko Sakura, accompanied on the piano by Eiko Tsukuda.
