Romanian far-right populist Călin Georgescu enjoys support from Donald Trump’s inner circle as well as the Kremlin.

Trump aide and tech billionaire Elon Trump called a decision on Sunday to bar Georgescu from  a redo of  presidential race “craziness” while Russian military intelligence agency openly voiced support for him last week.

But it seems that  love isn’t always a two-way street. Last year, the 62-year-old  soil scientist, who’s known for his conspiracy theories,  called Trump’s assassination attempt in July last year “Hollywood PR” while labeling his vice president  JD Vance “a virus”

In the July 2024 podcast, Georgescu, who came from nowhere to win the first round of Romania’s 2024 November presidential elections, claimed that Trump “is not what he used to be”.

Since then, Vance has  become one of Georgescu’s greatest international supporters, launching an attack on Romania at the Munich security conference against Bucharest for canceling the presidential election after reports of Russian interference.

“Trump’s sovereignty speech in 2016 was one thing, and now is something else. In the first term there really was peace. What I see now, especially through the appointment of Vice President J.D. Vance, who changed his name from Baumann to Vance, and especially following Trump’s statements, Make America Great Again, MAGA, has turned into MIGA, that is, Make Israel Great Again. That’s about what I see from some statements he made,” Georgescu he said in a podcast published on social media in July, 2024.

“JD Vance and others in America are viruses who make the show go on. We don’t need a show; we need real life,” he said.

He also spoke about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in July 2024, when a bullet grazed his ear at an  election rally.

Listing other events which he saw as conspiracy theories, such as the death of Princess Diana in a car accident or the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, Georgescu called the assassination attempt “Hollywood PR to make America seem like a prima-donna”.
