Presidential candidate Anamaria Gavrila has become a figure of ridicule in Romania after she called the police to protest that journalists were waiting outside her office in parliament seeking her reaction to a story.
Ms Gavrila,41, who is the leader of a new political party she founded, called Party of Youth (POT), had announced her intention to run for president in May elections.
But on Wednesday, social media rumors began to swirl that she planned to withdraw from the race to make way for another candidate, George Simion.
So journalists waited outside her office to see for themselves.
However, Ms. Gavrila apparently took fright and called police to protect her from reporters. They arrived at her office and took her statement.
The outcome perhaps wasn ‘t the one she was hoping for.
Police concluded that the journalists had the legal right to ask her questions and she was given a warning for wasting police time.
Ms Gavrila later confirmed she wouldn’t stand for president.
