Romania’s Simona Halep to gets wild card to play in WTA125 in Portugal

Simona Halep, the  former world No. 1, is training in Bucharest to prepare for her return to clay, her favorite surface, after a court suspended a doping ban.

The 32-year-old is working with her new Spanish coach Carlos Martínez, who aims to return the Romanian player to the top of her sport after 18 months on the sideline as she fought the ban.

The  last time Halep played a match on clay was the second round of Roland Garros 2022. She ended up losing to the Chinese Qinwen Zheng.

The 32-year-old tennis player from Constanta will play from April 15 to 21 at the WTA 125 in Oeiras (Portugal) after receiving an invitation.

She will then play in Madrid at the Mutua Madrid Open, from 23 April- 5 May as a wild card.

Halep is currently ranked 1,144 in the WTA and is training hard with Martinez to regain her earlier form.

After court reduced her suspension, she was handed a wild card at the Miami Open, WTA 1000. She was knocked out in the first round after losing to Paula Badosa, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
