Simona Halep reaffirms innocence in emotional message to fans

World’s former number one tennis player Simona Halep has thanked her fans for their support in an emotional message.

Halep, 32, was accused of taking a prohibited substance by the Anti-Doping Committee of WTA in 2022 and banned from professional tournaments for four years.

She challenged the decision and appealed in a higher court stating that she didn’t intentionally consume it.

She is currently awaiting a verdict from the . Amid the crisis, the Romanian tennis star took time to thank her fans and tell them she is still hopeful for a favorable outcome.

She said: “truth always prevail(s).”

Halep wrote- “The nightmare that I have lived for a year and half has finished. I had the chance to present my defence in front of TAS, to show that I never did any kind of doping. This is what I have said from the first day that I was accused. Now i am waiting for the decision with my head held high and I wanted to thank you, my fans, players, former players, legends of this sport, my sponsors and everyone else for your amazing support, all the messages and videos that you did for me during this harrowing time that i had.”

Halep’s statement was supported by tennis personalities such as  Boris Becker who said believed that Halep deserved a good result. He commented on the post by saying- “and hopefully come back to play more tennis  …we have missed you!” 

Her former colleague, Belgiab Kim Clijsters pointed her fingers at Halep’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou and her team for violating the Romanian tennis star’s trust. Clijsters also pointed out how Halep’s team who was involved in the case was not punished.
