Strong winds knocks down trees, damages cars injures one in Romanian capital

A strong wind tore through the Romanian capital early Friday evening, damaging cars, knocking down trees and ripping masonry off buildings. One person was taken to hospital after he was injured by a falling tree.

Meteorologists issued a yellow wind warning until 18:00, and the emergency services received dozens of calls reporting problems caused by the strong wind. Emergency authorities carried out 39 interventions, removing 34 trees.

The ISU Bucharest-Ilfov authority said it  remove trees that had toppled on to the 41 tram line,  at the Băneasa Passage, at Gara de Nord railway station and in the yard of the Central College.

A tree fell on a car on Radu Beller Street. A piece of sheet metal was ripped off the A strong wind arose in Bucharest and in the several tens of minutes it lasted it caused great damage. Trees, pieces of metal or sheet metal fell, dozens of cars were damaged and one person was hit and taken to the hospital.

According to ISU Bucharest-Ilfov, it intervened to remove some fallen trees, on tram line 41, at the Băneasa Passage, at the North Station, but also in the yard of the Central College.

A tree fell on a car on Radu Beller Street. A piece of sheet metal that was ripped off the Odeon Theater and authorities had to secure metal scaffolding that was at risk of collapse.

A man was injured when a tree fell on him. He was pulled out in a conscious state and transported to the hospital.

Firefighters say 19 cars were damaged.
