There is water on Mars

There is water on Mars. A lot of it, NASA has discovered.

A new analysis of seismic signals dating from 2018 now shows us that Mars has a hefty liquid reservoir in its outer crust.

This is actually the first time that liquid water has been found on Mars, although there is also water frozen at the Martian poles and evidence of vapor in the atmosphere.

“These are actually the same techniques we use to prospect for water on Earth, or to look for oil and gas,” says Professor Michael Manga.

Studies of the surface of Mars, with its channels and ripples, show that there were rivers, lakes, and deltas on the planet, before the planet became a desert three billion years ago after mysteriously losing its atmosphere – a historical process which may end up telling us about climate change on our own planet.

The water probably is not accessible for humans to use on earth, given that it’s well within the crust at 10-20 km, trapped in minuscule cracks and rock pores.
