Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte are expected to attend the B9 summit in Bucharest this week.
The Summit of the Bucharest Nine (B9) takes place on Wednesday and will bring together senior NATO, European, and Ukrainian officials for talks on regional security and defense cooperation.
It comes as Russia’s war in Ukraine drags on into its fifth year costing hundreds of thousands of lives and security concerns and efforts to beef up NATO’s eastern flank and transatlantic coordination.
Romanian president Nicușor Dan will host the summit at the Cotroceni presidential palace. Zelensky will be accompanied by his wife, Olena Zelensky.
The Bucharest Nine (B9) format was launched in 2014 as a Polish-Romanian initiative aimed at coordinating positions and exchanging views in the field of security between the nine countries located across the Baltic and Black Sea regions.
The Bucharest Nine comprises Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia.
