VIDEO | Romanian lawmaker tries to bite opponent’s face in Parliament brawl

A video posted on social media shows two Romanian lawmakers brawling with each other during a parliament session this week, where one was seen trying to bite his rival’s face.

The scrap between Florin Roman, a lawmaker of the National Liberal Party, and Dan Vîlceanu, an independent deputy, shows the two in physical fight on Tuesday.

„Like a cannibal he tried to bite my head and when I bowed my head,he kneed me,”Roman said.

Roman was appointed minister of digitalization in the Nicolae Ciucă government in November 2021. He resigned the following month amid allegations of plagiarism and discrepancies in his academic credentials.

Vîlceanu was also a member of the Liberal Party but following internal disputes and criticism of the party’s under Ciuca’s leadership, he was suspended from the party.

„Today something happened that I never thought would be possible in a civilized world, ” Roman added later in a Facebook post. He said he would press charges.
Even President Klaus Iohannis commented on the incident.”We have undesirable <Made in Romania> events happening in parliament, ” the president said on Wednesday.
Following the incident, the Legal Committee of the lower house, the Chamber of Deputies cut Vilceanu’s pay by 50% for the next six months and drastically reduced his floor time, the maximum penalty allowed.
