Winter arrives in Romania

Winter weather arrived in Romania on Friday yellow weather warnings for blizzards, snow and rain issued in Bucharest and several other counties in the southwest and southeast.

Up to 15 cm of snow is expected in the capital by Sunday, forecasters said– the first real snow of the winter so far.

Meteorologists are forecast snow for the counties of Mehedinți, Gorj, Dolj, Vâlcea, Argeș, Dâmbovița and Prahova, and rain, sleet freezing rain in Bucharest and the counties of Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, and Ilfov.

Snow and blizzards are also expected in the southern Carpathians.

The first Yellow Code warning of rain, freezing rain and blizzards for southern Romania came into effect on Thursday evening and expired morning.

The second  weather warning for rain, snow, blizzards and strong winds began Friday morning and will expire at 22:00 on Saturday.

It covers most of eastern and southern Romania from the Black Sea region of Dobrogea to the eastern Carpathians.

Snow, sleet and rain in the Muntenian and Moldovan plains and Dobrogea will be followed by heavy snow and winds will gust up to 50-60 km/h,

Blizzards are expected in the Southern Carpathians and Eastern Carpathians.
