Romanian authorities have placed American rapper Wiz Khalifa on the country’s wanted persons list after he failed to report to serve a prison sentence in a drug possession case.
On the Romanian Police website, the American artist appears under his legal name, Thomaz Cameron Jibril. The listing states that the warrant concerns the enforcement of a prison sentence linked to drug offences.
According to the police notice, authorities issued the alert in connection with the enforcement of a prison sentence tied to drug-related offences.
The case originates from an incident that took place in July 2024 at the “Beach, Please!” music festival in Costinești, a resort town on Romania’s Black Sea coast.
Prosecutors alleged that the rapper consumed cannabis while performing on stage. Investigators later concluded that he was carrying 18.53 grams of cannabis, along with a cigarette containing the same substance.
Initially, the Constanța Tribunal handed down a criminal fine of 3,600 lei. However, prosecutors from Romania’s anti-organised crime agency, DIICOT, appealed the decision. The Constanța Court of Appeal later accepted the prosecutors’ challenge and replaced the fine with a nine-month prison sentence in a ruling delivered on December 18, 2025.
The artist subsequently attempted to have the decision overturned, but Romania’s High Court of Cassation and Justice dismissed the appeal earlier this year. The court’s ruling, issued on May 7, 2026, rendered the conviction final and legally binding.
Following the final judgment, Wiz Khalifa did not surrender to begin serving the sentence, prompting Romanian authorities to place him on the national wanted persons list.
Romania may now pursue the enforcement of the sentence through international judicial cooperation channels. Should the rapper travel to another European Union country, Romanian authorities could seek his transfer through a European arrest warrant. Outside the EU, officials could resort to extradition proceedings or international policing mechanisms such as Interpol.
On the Romanian Police website, the offence is categorised as a drug-related crime. Authorities state that the artist received a nine-month sentence for illegal possession of risk-category drugs intended for personal consumption.
Romanian Law 143/2000 stipulates that unlawful possession of risk-category drugs for personal use can be punished with a prison term ranging from three months to two years or with a fine. In cases involving high-risk substances, penalties increase to between six months and three years in prison.
After the 2024 festival incident, Wiz Khalifa publicly said he had not meant to offend Romania and insisted that he would not repeat the behaviour.
