President Klaus Iohannis stated on the Kenyan trip that he is currently undertaking that over 30 million tons of Ukrainian grain have transited Romania – but also that Romania can do „much more”.

„Obviously, a lot of these products ended up in countries in Africa. But I think we can do a lot more and that’s why I decided to do this African tour that starts today, naturally and deservedly in Kenya”, Iohannis pointed out.

The president, visiting Kenya, held a press conference with his counterpart, William Ruto, at Nairobi State House.

„That’s why I insisted on having a Romanian strategy for Africa, that’s why I personally came with my team to start some very solid steps, thought not for the short term, but for the medium and long term,” Iohannis said, highlighting the need for „concrete collaboration at governmental level”.

On the occasion of the visit to Nairobi, four bilateral collaboration documents were signed on Tuesday, reports Agerpres.

„We all talk about crisis situations, about wars and other very undesirable events, and today I discussed with president Ruto how we are involved. Romania is involved in several areas in Africa with armed forces to keep or restore peace. Kenya is, also involved in Africa and more recently, as the president explained, in Haiti, as well”, Iohannis added.

President William Ruto spoke about how his country, but also the entire region, were affected by the war in Ukraine.

„The war in Ukraine has created a very serious situation in East Africa and in the entire African region,” the Kenyan president said, referring including to the food crisis and the increase in prices.

The state visit to Kenya is the first stage of the tour in Africa that president Klaus Iohannis is making. The African tour also includes state visits to Tanzania and the Republic of Cabo Verde, as well as an official visit to Senegal.
