Bucharest airports say there was record traffic last year in terms of passenger numbers and flights, airport authorities reported.
Traffic at the Henri Coanda and the Baneasa airports increased to 14.73 million, a rise of 6.3% from the previous year, according to the Bucharest Airports National Company which released the figures this week.
The numbers of passengers using the two airports have doubled from 2013, when they had a combined traffic of about 7.6 million passengers.
In 2019, the vast majority _or 14.71 million passengers _ used the airport in Otopeni north of the capital, while just 25,500 passengers flew from or to the Aurel Vlaicu airport in Baneasa CNAB was set up through the merger of the companies that manage the Bucharest airports – Henri Coandă International Airport Bucharest and the Baneasa International Airport Aurel Vlaicu.
Separately there were 145,000 aircraft landings and take-offs at the two airports, about 5% more than the previous year. Some 123,407 aircraft took off or landed at Henri Coanda, and about 22,000 used the Baneasa airport,
There are 57 airlines operating from the Henri Coanda airport which fly to 131 destinations.
The company was set up in 2010 following the merger of the two companies managing the Bucharest’s airports: Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport and Bucharest-Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.
