Also running for president this month, Romanian leaders rush to congratulate Trump

Romania’s Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu was among the first European leaders to congratulate Donald Trump for winning the White House even as votes were still  being counted and rival Kamala  Harris has not conceded.

Romania holds presidential elections on Nov. 24 and the Romanian prime minister and Liberal Party leader who immediately congratulated Trump are both running for president. Romania has a strategic partnership with the United States, but beyond that, Romania’s next leader would want to forge a personal relationship with the future U.S. leader.

“Congratulations to President @realDonaldTrump on this historic victory! Romania stands ready to work together to enhance our Strategic Partnership. Under your new leadership we hope for peace and prosperity for all our citizens!Looking forward to a fruitful collaboration!

Liberal leader and Senate speaker Nicolae Ciuca also congratulated Trump “on his re-election and wish him and the USA success. I will do my best to ensure our strong cooperation with the USA continues and flourishes, especially in times of crisis when Romania and the whole free world face multiple threats. Romania’s safety and security are my priority!

Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who won re-election on Nov. 3, joined the chorus of  praise from European leaders.

“Moldova cherishes its relationship with the United States, our strategic partner, and looks forward to deepening our cooperation for a future of greater prosperity and security for our people.”

President Klaus Iohannis who leaves office after serving two terms this  year also sent a message to Trump.

If confirmed, Donald Trump will become the 47th president of the United States. He claimed victory when it  was  announced  he’d won  267 votes in the Electoral College out of the 270 needed.
