Another day, another record number of coronavirus infections in Romania

Romania reported a new record number of daily Covid-19 cases with almost 900 testing positive for the virus , authorities said Saturday.

The Strategic Communication Group said that 889 people were diagnosed with the disease, taking the total to 36,691.

Authorities carried out 18,732 tests, which means 4.75% were came out positive, the highest percentage in five days.

There were 280 patients receiving treatment in intensive-care units on Saturday, one of the highest figures ever.

Twenty-one patients succumbed to the virus in the past day, including a patient in their 20s and another in their 30s. Some 2,009 people have died after contracting the virus in the past four months.

Romania has recently seen record daily spikes its number of reported infections. On Friday alone some 799 new cases were reported in 24 hours — the highest one-day surge since the pandemic began in Romania over four months ago.

The worst outbreak was again in the southern county of Arges, where hospitals are overwhelmed by fresh cases. Some 106 new infections were reported there in the last day, an increase of 6% over the previous day.

The western county of Timis saw a spike with 77 new cases, after several outbreaks were reported there in the past week.

The capital, Bucharest had 88 new cases and the county of Brasov, a tourist spot, reported 64 infections.


Some 24,865 people have recovered, including patients with no symptoms.
