A Russian missile attack has killed at least eight people in Zaporizhzhia, local officials say.
The missile attack also injured additional 22 people, including a child.
What’s more, as many as five people may be trapped under rubble. Two women were pulled out overnight and have been hospitalized.
The search mission continues, as fears of a rising death toll loom.
Zaporizhzhia regional head Ivan Fedorov claims that Russia fired a ballistic missile — most likely an Iskander. He says Ukraine will not forgive, and that Russia will pay for “every Ukrainian life taken and mutilated”.
Russia has not responded.
President Zelensky has once again turned to Western allies to ask for advanced air defence systems to repel Russian attacks.
“We don’t have enough systems to protect our country from Russian missiles. But our partners have these systems. Again and again, we repeat that air defence systems should save lives, not gather dust in warehouses,” he said.
Separately, Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of launching a drone attack on a convoy of vehicles transporting experts from the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
One car was severely damaged as the convoy headed to the infamous Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) — particularly sensitive as the agency was “working to prevent a nuclear accident during the military conflict”.
The ZNPP is still seized by Russia, and has been since 2022.
