A Romanian woman and mother to a two-year-old boy, appealed to people to get vaccinated shortly before she died of Covid-19.
The 33-year-old died Sunday in the intensive care unit in the Buzau County Hospital. She had no underlying health conditions, health authorities said.
She is one of a growing group of people who haven’t been inoculated against the virus for various reasons, who caught Covid-19, became seriously ill, and then regretted not getting a jab.
Romania has one of the lowest vaccine rates in the EU. However, a deadly fourth wave which is killing hundreds of people a day combined with tough new restrictions have led to thousands changing their minds and getting a shot.
On Sunday, more than seven million people had received at least one jab which is 36.2% of the population.
In the young mother’s case, she posted a message on social media three days before she died, urging people to get inoculated.
“Don’t sit around for another second. Value your life. Go and get vaccinated.”
“Stop listening to people who are against the vaccine, Maybe I didn’t really believe in the illness, and was scared of the jab. But now I am fighting with all my strength,” the young mother said.
“I have a beautiful family at home, a child who hasn’t been five minutes apart from his mother. Be responsible. Get vaccinated. I am fighting with the the disease and with the help of the Virgin Mary and our Lord I will get through this and this heavy cross I am bearing.”
She tested positive for the virus on October 20, and was hospitalized on October 28 and admitted to intensive care. She died on Sunday.
