Right now it seems that things have taken a turn towards change, though it’s difficult to say how long things will remain up in the air.
On the other hand, Donald Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine as a priority of his second presidency, and might actually hold true to his promise – though if the negative or positive nature of this denouement remains unclear.
In any case, French president Emmanuel Macron, who has been vocal on the subject since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine three years ago, says that a truce will come in a few weeks.
Or could come, he specified.
Macron has vouched for a ceasefire that involves clear security guarantees for Ukraine, not its surrender.
As talks struggle on, so war rages on. Last night, Russia launched over 200 drones, most of which were intercepted by Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukraine seems open to a mutually beneficial agreement, in which it would receive security from the USA in exchange for half or so of its rare mineral reserve, which has been the talk of the town.
Things have been quite transparent as regards the mineral reserves: “negotiations have been very constructive, with nearly all key details finalized”, Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, has announced on X.
Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, is keeping mum — much as he always does.
Russia is currently controlling a lot of Eastern Ukraine. A good amount of mineral reserves are within this occupied territory.
