Romania’s Cluj-Napoca International Airport has inaugurated the extension of its passenger departures terminal, which has been in the works since May 2023.
This was a project worth RON 412 million (EUR 83 million) VAT included, funded from the European and national budgets as well as the company’s sources.
David Ciceo, the airport’s director, has stated that the extension will make it possible for the airport to transit circa 4.5 million passengers per year.
This also comes in a time of Romania’s shifting status in the Schengen zone.
Cluj’s mayor, Emil Boc, said it was an appropriate investment for a city like Cluj-Napoca, which holds major sports events, conferences, championships, and is a major business area.
The investment also included 270 solar panels, which will provide 40% of the terminals’ energy.
