Coronavirus cases near 6,000 in Romania, deaths climb toward 300

Romania has almost 6,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, authorities said Saturday, while the death toll reached 291.

The Strategic Communication Group said that there had been 5,990 cases since the outbreak begun, and 523 new cases in the last 24 hours. There were 21 deaths in the last day.

The group said 43 Romanians abroad have died.

Almost 60,000 tests have been carried out.

The health ministry said a 58-year-old nurse at the Brasov Military Hospital died, the second healthcare worker to die.

In the last 24 hours, almost 9,000 people have been fined 19.34 million lei for not respecting lockdown rules that were imposed during the state of emergency to respect people’s movements.
