Romania’s swimming virtuoso David Popovici has broken a 20-year old record in Barcelona.

He won the 200m freestyle event at the Mare Nostrum meet in Barcelona. 

Popovici set a new competition record after nearly 20 years, with a time of 1 minute 44.74 seconds, reports Romania Insider. 

The former Mare Nostrum circuit record for the 200m freestyle was held by German Paul Biedermann, with a time of 1 minute 44.88 seconds, set on June 13, 2005 in Monaco, says Agerpres.

David Popovici is currently 19 years. He returns home to Bucharest from Barcelona with a gold medal.
