Elon Musk’s recent interest in Romanian politics is not welcome and amounts to interfering in domestic affairs and harming democracy, Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan said Saturday.

“Elon Musk tweets daily about Romania. Not because he knows Romania. Not because he cares about Romania. But because he wants to interfere with the upcoming presidential elections. He is supporting a radical candidate, ” Muresan wrote.

Even more, he is “attacking the Rule of Law, the judiciary and key institutions,” the Romanian politcian said on X, which is owned by billionaire Musk who heads U.S. President Donald Trump’s Department of Efficiency.

Romania canceled its presidential election after intelligence reports revealed massive foreign interference that corrupted the vote, Constitutional Court president Marian Enache said this week. He said the only option was to invalidate the vote to protect hard-won democracy.

Supporters of hard-right pro-Russian Calin Georgescu, whose first-round win shocked supporters and opponents alike,  have cried foul and protested the cancellation. Thousands protested on Saturday, calling for the second round of elections to be reinstated.
