Fire at refinery on Romania’s Black Sea coast

A  fire broke out after blast ripped through Romania’s largest oil refinery, Petromidia, on the Black Sea coast on Wednesday, Romanian emergency services said.

Firefighters have been working to put out the blaze which was visible from many kilometers away.

There were no immediate reports about victims or the cause of the explosion. An explosion at the same refinery last July killed one person and injured five others.

“We are intervening in this moment with nine fire engines and five SMURD ambulances, three other ambulances, and two ladder fire trucksi. A Red Plan emergency has been activated. Another five fire engines are coming from (the counties of) Călăraşi, Ialomiţa and Tulcea”, Ana Maria Stoica, the spokeswoman for Dobrogea Emergency Services said.
