Fire in Constanta Port successfully extinguished

The fire that broke out in the cargo compartment of a ship located in the port of Constanta Sud – Agigea has been extinguished, without any casualties. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

According to the Romanian Naval Authority (ANR), the ship’s crew managed to close the covers of the cargo compartment and the vents, starting the fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing installation.

„It was the ship’s agent who alerted the authorities around 5:12 p.m., after the fire broke out in the ship’s hold. By the time the firemen arrived, the crew managed to close the covers and vents and the fixed installation of fire extinguish with CO2 was started. Fortunately, no crew member or port worker was injured. The ship, under the flag of Liberia, is currently under surveillance, and the Constanta Port Authority will carry out investigations to establish the causes of the fire”, an ANR press release informs.

The Liberian cargo ship is loaded with buses and other goods.
