A cheese pie with a diameter of 1.32 meters was prepared on Sunday, in the village of Ceanu Mare, Cluj-Napoca, for local festivities.
Housewives competed in traditional dishes, during the Days of the Commune and the Palaneț Festival.
A palaneț is a traditional heavy dough pastry made on the hearth.
This year’s enormous palaneț’s is the largest ever made in the commune.
The ladies have also made a giant cozonac (sweetbread with a laboriously notorious recipe), at over 1.5 meters long.
The giant palaneț was prepared by three women from the commune, coordinated by Nicoleta Filipov.
It was kneaded entirely by hand.
According to Mayor Virgil Păcurar, the recipe is traditional and includes only organic ingredients, namely white flour, water, homemade eggs, salt, yeast and a mixture of cow and sheep cheese.
Around 20 kilos of cheese, 40 eggs and approximately 15-16 kilos of flour were used.
Last year, the commune entered the Book of Records with a palaneț that had a diameter of one meter.
Village women sought to break their own record this year, and document the process with photos and videos.
The palaneț is the local symbol of Ceanu Mare.
It is currently on display at the local gymnasium, and will thereafter be shared among locals.
