Indian flight turns back because of clogged toilets (and it’s not what you think)

An Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi was forced to turn back last week after polythene bags, rags and clothes clogged its toilets.

Videos show confused passengers crowding around crew members explaining the situation.

About two hours into the flight, crew members reported that eight of twelve toilets were “unserviceable” as the plane crossed the Atlantic, says the BBC.

Whether the decision to return to Chicago for “passenger comfort and safety” was necessary is debatable, given that they had already been in the air for 10 hours. They were however provided with accommodation and alternative flights.

One photo showed a crew member holding a drainage pipe stuffed to the brim with rags.

Air India has previously found blankets and diapers clogging its planes’ toilets.
