Israel and US launch strikes on Iran as Trump confirms ‘major combat operations’

The US and Isral launched strikes on Iran Saturday morning after what the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said was months of ‘close and joint planning.’ The US military is also planning for several days of attacks, according to two sources.

US President Donald Trump described the military strikes as ‘massive and ongoing’ saying   American lives may be lost as a result of the campaign.

Trump also advocated for regime change and called on Iranians to “take over your government.”

He accused Tehran of working to rebuild its nuclear program after massive US strikes last summer he previously claimed had obliterated the facilities.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it has fired the “first wave” of large-scale missile and drone attacks towards Israel.

There were reports of multiple explosions in Dubai and also in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, all of which have US bases.

Iran launched a counterstrike on US naval base in Bahrain, hitting the headquarters of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain, Stars and Stripes reported.

Several United States embassies in countries across the Middle East have called for Americans abroad to shelter-in-place. Calls went out in Irael, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan.

Trump said the strikes called ”Epic Fury’ by the Pentagon aim to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons while addressing concerns over Iran’s ballistic missile program. He said the goal was to protect American citizens by eliminating potential threats from Iran.

Media reports indicate that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was moved several days ago to a secure location.

The attacks follow an earlier 12-day air war in June between Iran and Israel, along with warnings from both the US and Israel that further strikes would occur if Iran continued its nuclear endeavors.

Romania’s foreign ministry warned nationals to avoid travel to Israel.
