Northern Lights light up night sky in western Romania

The Northern Lights were visible in western Romania this week.

Residents in Sălaj County,Baia Mare and Timisoara posted images of a deep pink night sky on Monday through to Tuesday on social media.

Eye witnesses said the celestial spectacle lasted about 45 minutes.

“The Northern Lights are produced by the material that comes from the Sun. The Sun loses atomic nuclei, gases, electrons, which go everywhere in the solar system. Auroras are always produced, but they are of low intensity. When an eruption occurs, more material leaves the Sun and, if it reaches the Earth, the auroras are more intense,” Adrian Şonka, astronomer at the “Admiral Vasile Urseanu” Astronomical Observatory told Digi24.
