Romania sees sharp rise in Covid cases in past week

Romania has seen a sharp rise in Covid cases in the past week with 2,015 new cases of the virus reported, the National Disease Center reported.

“The number of people infected ( for the week of July 15-21) was 2,015, up 60% compared to the previous week,” the INSP said.

Some 662 of the new cases in the last week are  reinfected patients who tested positive more than 90 days after the first infection/another reinfection.

Eleven Covid-related deaths were reported in the same week, and only one case was a person with comorbidities.

“676 RT-PCR tests and 8,920 rapid antigen tests were performed, 11.4% more than in the previous week. The positivity rate was 21%, up by 6.4%,” according to INSP.

So far, Romania has reported: 3,536,329 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been registered. 68,973 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died.

14,020,170 RT-PCR tests and 14,860,496 rapid antigen tests were processed.
