Romania’s culture minister has allocated 80 million Euros to build a new opera house in the northeastern city of Iasi, which has a population of quarter of a million.
The present opera house seats 750, which is too few for local demand. The new opera will be ready in 2027
Liberal Party leader Alexandru Muraru said on Friday that local funds would contribute to the project.
„Some 15 million euros have already been allocated which will be supplemented by another 65 million euros,” he said.
A new building for Opera Romania Iasi will be built on a plot of over 10,000 square meters belonging to Apa Vital, subordinated to Iasi County Council.
