Romanian hotels along the Black Sea coast are offering promotional prices for September in a bid to attract late holidaymakers while the weather and water are still warm.
Traditionally, Romanians go to the seaside for their holidays in July and August. They then abandon the coast and opt for breaks at the mountains and other destinations.
But the weather is staying warmer for longer with climate warming. Some people are choosing a slower-paced and cheaper vacation, meaning hotels are staying open longer.
The “Coast for everyone” promo started on Wednesday. People can stay at designated places along at the seaside at hotels starting at a bargain 35 lei (about 7.5 euros) a night.
Tourists can choose hotels from 2 to 4 stars. Some 40,000 people are expected to take advantage of the offer, with the cheapest rooms costing least three times more that in the peak season.
The program was initiated by the Federation of Romanian Tourism Owners. It said the prices were 70% less than during the peak season.
It’s the 42ndst edition of the promotion.
The cheapest hotel is a 2-star establishment in the less pricey resort of Eforie Nord which is popular with families on a budget.
Bed and breakfast there costs 70 lei a night for two people, with a minimum stay of five days.
The federation groups more than 5,300 tourism companies, which employ almost 74,000 people. That’s 37% of all the employees in the hospitality sector.
