Romanian President Nicușor Dan to hold talks with Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin

President Nicușor Dan will travel to Germany on Friday for talks with Chancellor Friedrich Merz on energy, business and the war in Ukraine.

The president will also have talks with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and take part in a meeting with German businessmen, as well as a meeting with representatives of the Romanian community, the presidential administration said.

Talks will focus on continuing support for Ukraine and efforts to ensure a just and lasting peace, supporting the Republic of Moldova integrate into the European Union, EU’s competitiveness at global level, as well as developing transatlantic relations.

Germany is Romania’s main economic partner and a key ally in ensuring European security,” the presidential administration said.

Romania exported 22.62 billion euros of goods in 2023 and imported 23.66 billion euros from Germany, making it by far its most important trading partner.

The visit “reflects the excellent relations, of a strategic nature, between the two countries… (based on) close cooperation at bilateral, European and allied level, as well as on solid historical and people-to-people ties between the two countries.”
